Synopsis:

‘Dance of the World’, a lecture cum performance presents three dances from the world. These dance styles are well known for their captivating eloquence and beauty of the movements, and the precision of techniques and showmanship.

Originally practised largely as competitive dance, these dances have made its way across Asia over the last decade, slowly gaining its popularity amongst people from all demographic, from children to teenagers, from working adults to the elderly. With popular television programmes, such as Dancing with the stars, So you think you can dance, many have watched these dances, however, the dance remains as an art form that seems untouchable, only to be experienced through the television.

‘Dance of the world’ brings the dances up close and personal to our audiences, leading them into the exotic world and rich cultures behind these dances. Presented through a lecture cum performance format, students will be engaged in a total appreciation experience by watching three dance pieces with interactive lecture on each dance, and a hands on participative taster mass dance session.

Technical: Empty and clean hall stage; projector and sound system; 1 PA assistant (lights).
